We Liked

Gaerne is not a name you hear about very often in the cycling world unless your in Europe and then you are familiar with this old Italian brand. The company started making shoes in 1962, so not a fly by night company at all. We have seen this brand in the USA for a while but it was only here and there and so we decided to get a pair and check them out for cyclocross. There is one thing that the Italian know how to do and that is style. And these shoes have plenty of that. We didn't choose the carbon sole as we wanted something that we could run in for cyclocross. What did we think about them? Well the Kobra shoe is one the easiest cycling shoes to run in. The fit of the shoe was really good and the style of our shoes was nothing short of eye catching. So much so that when ever we went to a race people would be checking out our shoes and telling us how cool they were. They always wanted to know where they could get a pair and how much they were. So we have listed below all of the features that come withthe Kobra MTB shoes.

  • Made in Italy
  • Diagonal closure
  • Boa Retention system
  • Air ventilation system
  • Paddedd tongue
  • High comfort insole
  • Heel cup with control system.
  • Style & durability
  • Nylon or carbon sole options available
  • Great fit
  • Roomy toe box
  • Boa Micro system

We Didn't Like

The only thing we didnt like was that we developed hot spots after about 35 min of racing in the shoe. We were not able to determine if it was a pedal cleat interface problem or a orthotic problem.

The Final Say

Any time the Italians get into clothing they tend to do a really good job. In this case is just that. Not everyone has head of Gaerne or familiar with them. yes some of the worlds best cyclist use their shoes. now this says a lot because in the pro peloton some riders have shoe contacts and others just get their own shoes. Gaerne is a lot like another famous Italian cycling shoe maker in that they do cycling and motorcycle shoes and boots. The company was founded in 1962 and is proud to have "Made in Italy, Exported World Wide" on just about everything. this company holds to its roots and its mission. the Kobra comes in 4 colors and we just happened to get one of the limited edition ones in the Belgium colors. Which is pretty pimping in the cyclocross world. the shoe definitely turns heads. We had a lot of people telling us that they thoughts out shoes were really cool and wanting to know more about them. The Kobra
