Specialized isn’t just investing and applying more and better technologies for their bicycles and components, the new Purist Water Bottles are a prime example. As Specialized states about Purist “Just as the lotus leaf sheds water and contaminants, so does Purist, through low surface tension shielding the inside of your bottle from odor, staining, and mold build-up. With a simple rinse of the bottle, Purist ensures that water from the bottle does not taste like plastic or the previous liquid.” Just look at the water bottles you have now and if you like me most if not all are Specialized. Sure I have a few bottles that aren’t though I rarely do use them why the Specialized bottles simply are better. With Purist Specialized as raised the bar yet again, so how do the Purist bottle perform? Purist was submitted to independent verification testing at SGS. Based in Geneva, Switzerland, SGS is recognized as the world’s leading inspection, verification, testing, and certification company. See for yourself.

Despite the great deal of information about Purist on the Specialized Water Bottle site I still was compelled to conduct my own low tech testing. Everyone knows how tomato sauce stains most plastics; there are some images on the Specialized Water Bottle site comparing the Purist bottle to a standard bottle to demonstrate the results. I received a sample bottle at Interbike, I used the bottle extensively for the remainder of the show using one liquid after another with just a rinse between each new drink tasted just as it should with no to little trace of the previous just like Louie from Specialized Bottles said. When I returned home I had to one up the tomato sauce test I poured some of my favorite hot tomato salsa in a standard bottle and in the Purist bottle let it sit out for 24 hours poured it out and rinsed with some warm soapy water and rinsed. The results; Purist Bottle had a significant less staining and smelled far more neutral than the standard bottle. I then washed both on the top self of the dishwasher when removed the Purist bottle looked and smelled completely clean, something that could not be said of the other then filled both with milk let sit an hour in the frig and then did a blindfold taste test. Results; the milk in the Purist Bottle tasted well like milk should, the standard bottle well have you ever drank something you thought was something else, you get the point it Purist works.

Some of the other features of the Purist Bottle that stand out is the clear view strip for solid color bottles so at glance you know how much fluid is left in your Purist Bottle. The wide opening makes it easy to fill and add ice cubes. Purist Bottle comes with a choice of two cap styles MoFlo and Watergate both by the way are compatible with the standard Big Mouth bottle you already have as the bottle openings and threading pitch is the same no reason to mess with perfection there. What cap should you get? Well both have their pros and pros. Both MoFlo and Watergate poppets are removable for easy cleaning, and use a o-ring for easier opening and closing of the valves though they are not interchangeable. The Watergate valve is my favorite while riding the salient feature of the Watergate cap is the leak proof heart valve, even over rough ground or when grabbing during a hand up there is no fluid splashing out of the valve. While riding with the Watergate cap just grab and squeeze no need to close and reopen the valve between drinks. I did my own test of the caps for amount of flow from each comparing both to the standard cap results; average of three trials each Standard cap 180ml, MoFlo 230ml and Watergate 200ml.

Anyone wanting to get their brand recognized, should know that when the product your brand is on doesn’t get used as is so common with cheaply made inferior bottles that get tossed in the recycle bin or worse just the trash is no value at all. Get your brand out there in a product that every cyclist and the matter anyone that is concerned about purity and taste in the convenience of a flexible bottle. We at Cross Bike Review had some custom Purist Bottle made the process is fast and simple. From the time the order was placed we hand our custom bottle in our hands within 2 weeks. We Didn't Like

Suggestion is to have a little note in the bottles for consumers on how to clean so they do not use a bottle brush or scrubby as they have done before.

The Final Say

With Purist by Specialized the standard to which all other water bottles have been measured has raised the bar again. Specialized with Purist for a clean pure taste of what you are drinking now, not the previous liquid. No plastic taste, BPA free, non-staining, easy to clean just rinse with a mild detergent then clean water or wash on the top shelf of the dishwasher. Give your team, customers or event participants they will be sure to use with the benefit drinking from a flexible bottle with you logo on it does not leave them with a bad taste in their mouth. Specialized Purist shattering limits of what a water bottle is.
