We were very happy to find out that SIDI had set up on their own to concentrate on the US market. We visited them at this year's Interbike and were introduced to their brand manager, Sara Ecclesine. Sara was a gracious host with a wealth of knowledge on SIDI and their product line. When she discovered that we raced cyclocross and wrote the book, she immediately reached for the SIDI Spider. Wow, what a shoe! After receiving a pair of Spiders for evaluation, I have to say that there is nothing like slipping on a fine pair of Italian made shoes that fit you. There is something about the fit of a SIDI that I have not found in other cycling shoes. Looking at the anatomy of a foot, there is a slight natural curve to it that starts at the medial point of the heel then goes towards the arch and out to the big toe. The Spider's natural curve feels awesome to my feet. SIDI has an extensive and thorough understanding of the anatomical shape of the human foot. This shoe actually fits my foot as opposed to my foot deforming to fit into the shoe. The great thing about the Spiders is that they flex when you walk but not when you ride. They flex in only one direction, so when dismount and start to run, it feels like you are in running shoes! Then when you remount, the stiff cycling shoes return. The Spider has the same high-quality buckle that we come to expect from SIDI, along with replaceable treads on the bottom of the shoe. If the course becomes steep or muddy, you have the option of inserting the included toe spikes. The Spider SRS has a combination of mesh and shiny Lorica that scream style! This shoe is the NEW choice for the high-performance, high mileage cross-country rider or cyclocross racer.

The upper is made from microfiber Vernice and Nylon mesh. The body of the shoe is a combination of Lorica® and Vernice. Lorica is an exceptionally soft and supple microfiber synthetic leather. It is water-repellent, quick drying, and permeable to water vapour (breathable). As an added bonus, it resists tearing, splitting, scratching and atmospheric agents as well as deterioration from stretching or rot. The mid-foot and toe straps utilize High Security Velcro®.

- Design
This was the perfect time to get a pair as it is SIDI's 50th anniversary. The company has been making shoes and boots since 1959 This shoe is definitely a special one!
SIDI's design engineers took the Dominator base and then combined it with the SRS platform. The toe box is reinforced and has been plated with rubber, adding more protection to the toes. I was very happy to see a rubber toe guard on the shoe. My old Dominator's were wearing thin in the toe, so this attention to detail is appreciated.
The Spider also has an adjustable buckle that is replaceable and offers a cut to fit strap. Combine the buckle with SIDI's own High Security Velcro on the two remaining straps and this shoe will not be coming off of your foot anytime soon. The High Security Velcro® straps utilize integrated locking polymer teeth that engage onto each other when the strap is closed. This feature makes the closure more secure and the strap becomes immovable.
