Review: Louis Garneau ECS Long Sleeve Jersey

We Liked
There is so much to like about this long sleeve jersey, first off the quality construction of the ECS LS jersey with multiple panels for a ergonomic fit sewn with contrasting flat lock stitching throughout. The combination of the Elite Provent knit and Carbon T-Ion knit strategically used for the best combination to retain warmth and enhance comfort through superior moisture transfer. The Elite Provent is used on the front panels, sleeves, the center spine section of the back and soft rounded collar were warmth is most needed. Whereas the Carbon T-Ion knit is used on the outer/side back sections that extend to under the armpit area for increased breathability and moisture transfer. The two angled pockets that are very easy to access even with cold weather gloves on are made from the Elite Provent over the Carbon T-Ion fabric. Some small and generally unnoticed features make a big difference with the Louis Garneau ECS LS jersey like the signature gripper at the back hem that by the way is 3 ½ inches lower than the front the griper holds the back end of the jersey in place keeping cold air or wet spray off your back side. Even the zipper pull has been thoughtfully designed is a flexible textured rubber with a bit of a hook at the end for easy grip while wearing gloves. Of course first class Louis Garneau styling is standard.
We Didn't Like
The angled rear pockets are a bit shallow and I did have a few tall bottles fall out while riding on rough terrain or when jumping curbs, though my Blackberry or small bottles never jumped out. I would like to see a zippered pocket inside for keys & ID.
** Not present on actual garment though stated on LG product page** Back pocket with zip, Mp3 player pocket
The Final Say
The Louis Garneau ECS Long Sleeve Jersey is a first rate of cycling wear that is adaptable to changing weather conditions that has made my decision of what to wear a whole lot more simple. This fall and early winter of 2010 here in the front range of Colorado has been unseasonable warm and as usual the weather can change dramatically throughout a ride. I have started out when it is 30 degrees and within 30min it will be 65 degrees and sunny while climbing, then on the north side of a mountain decent it will be 30 degrees, shady and I’m moving at 50mph. These rapid changes in tempeture usually not a good combination for a standard cold weather LS jersey, not while wearing the LG ECS LS my body temperature was definitely more constant as moisture was wicked very well if not completlly by the combination of the Elite Provent and Carbon T-Ion fabrics. The Louis Garneau ECS Long Sleeve jersey should be your first choice for upper body coverage with or without a base layer. In colder wether wear in combination with the LG Massimo 2 Jacket.
